Over my professional career and throughout my life, I’ve heard the hypothetical phrase “if women ruled the world it would be a better place.” I don’t know if that’s true necessarily, but what I do know is that I don’t like hypotheticals. I like action and I like fairness. I’m competitive by nature and was raised to aim high and fight for what I believe in.
Over the past 50 years, there has been tremendous progress in society towards equality. We’ve seen the impact of the civil rights movement, LGBTQ rights, rights for women and more. Of course, there is still much work that needs to be done, however, we should be inspired by how far society has come and use that inspiration to help reach the final goal of an equal and just society for everyone.
Women are instrumental to Revera, and we’re a better company for it
Revera is leading the way when it comes to diversity and equality in the workplace, which is one of the many reasons I’m proud to work here. Over the years, women have made great strides in the workplace, yet companies still often talk about how they can achieve a better gender balance, particularly at the management level. At Revera, of the 1207 leadership positions, 834 are held by women, from our residence and home management all the way up to our senior vice presidents and Chief Medical Officer.
I’m very proud of Revera for its track record of championing and empowering women. Of our 175 residences or homes, 120 executive directors are women. In our 17 regions, 11 regional directors are women. Three of six senior vice presidents are female, as are nine of 19 vice presidents. Women are instrumental to Revera, and we’re a better company for it.
Society has come a long way, but that doesn’t mean we can stop now. There are still many organizations and industries where women face invisible glass ceilings. I love the quote, “it’s not how you start that’s important, it’s how you finish.” Let’s keep working towards a bright finish for everyone.
