Revera Begins Process of Closing 60-Year-Old Parkview Place Long Term Care Home in Winnipeg Manitoba

August 10, 2021

Revera has made the difficult but necessary decision to begin the process to close Parkview Place Long Term Care Home, and has provided the required one-year notice to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA). We will support Parkview Place’s residents and families through this process, and will work closely with WRHA as it plans resident moves to other care homes. Parkview Place will close by August 10, 2022 or once all residents have transitioned.

Parkview Place was built 60 years ago and its outdated design and layout is no longer conducive to the care of elderly residents. Its aging infrastructure presents many challenges, including narrow hallways, tight and outdated recreation and very limited outdoor space for residents to enjoy. Parkview Place cannot simply be renovated to meet today’s long term care standards; this would be a very complex undertaking and would require that residents and staff be displaced for years. While this decision was made independent of the home’s heartbreaking outbreak this past winter, the outbreak reinforced that closing is the right thing to do.

We are very grateful for Parkview Place’s team of long-standing, dedicated employees who demonstrated such bravery and compassion through the pandemic. We are going to work closely with them and our Union partners through the transition and in finding new employment, whether that is at a Revera site or elsewhere.

Parkview Place was Revera’s very first long term care home and the decision to close was not taken lightly. It has been a privilege to serve residents in Winnipeg at Parkview Place for 60 years, and we will do everything we can to make this process as seamless as possible for our residents, their families and our employees.
