To help you understand how to access long term care, we’ve noted some valuable information about the admissions process, what types of rooms are typically available, and the costs associated with long term care. We've also included a link to our Home Tour Checklist, a valuable tool to help you gather and reflect on the information you need to make the right decision.

Admissions Process

Admissions to long term care are made by referral from agencies in the provinces where Revera operates.

These agencies can help:
  • Clarify care needs
  • Explain available choices
  • Make connections to appropriate services and providers in your community
  • Arrange for admission to a long term care home
  • Determine your eligibility for government-funded services and support

Types of Rooms

To suit the needs and preferences of residents, long term care homes typically have private (one bed), semi-private (two beds) rooms and ward accommodations. At Revera, residents and families are encouraged to make their rooms feel like home by bringing in personal items, such as family photos or a favourite picture.

The costs of long term care are shared by the resident and the government. Typically, residents pay for their accommodation, while the government covers the costs of things like care, some medications, food and programming. In some provinces, there are private pay options.

If applicable, rates for all types of long term care accommodation are established by the provincial government. Depending on the resident’s income, rate subsidies may be available for ward accommodation. For information, please contact the appropriate provincial agency or one of Revera’s Long Term Care homes.
