National Nursing Week is a time to celebrate the critical role that nurses play in the care of older adults

May 6 to 13 is National Nursing Week in Canada – a time to say, ‘Thank You!’

MISSISSAUGA, ON – May 6, 2019 –Revera celebrates National Nursing Week by recognizing the critical role that nurses play in the care of residents in long term care homes and retirement residences across Canada.

Nurses – A Voice to Lead – Health for All is this year’s theme for the Canadian Nurses Association’s National Nursing Week activities. The theme, which was developed by the International Council of Nurses, reflects the fact that “every nurse has a story and every story has the potential to improve the health system and enable individuals and communities to achieve their highest attainable standard of health.”

“Being a nurse is a special calling - one that requires exceptional intelligence, gentle patience, true compassion and deep empathy,”” said Thomas Wellner, Revera’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Nurses are critical members of our care teams in long term care, assisted living and memory care. When I meet the nurses who work at Revera, I am always struck by how exceptional they are, and am truly appreciative of their commitment and dedication to caring for our residents.”

Nursing at Revera:
Revera employs a range of nursing roles, according to provincial jurisdiction, including Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse.

In total, Revera employs about 2,800 nurses in our long term care homes and about 1,000 nurses in our retirement residences.

“I have worked with hundreds of nurses in a variety of environments and I have appreciated all of them for their individual skills. But I will always have a special place in my heart for nurses in Retirement Living and Long Term Care,” said Dr. Rhonda Collins, Revera’s Chief Medical Officer, in her Nursing Week blog. “To all our nurses, for everything you do, I say thank you. You improve our residents’ lives every day and make the world a better place.”
