Fleetwood Villa
Celebrates 10 Years
Highland Place
Showcases Talent
To celebrate its 10th anniversary,
Fleetwood Villa in Surrey, B.C., held
a 1950s rock n’ roll themed party
for residents. Employees dressed
up in costumes and the community
transformed their bistro/lounge
area into a 1950s diner with a soda
fountain float station, a popcorn
station and food from the era. But
they didn’t stop there. The event also
featured an Elvis impersonator, 1950s
themed photo booth for souvenir
pictures and a selection of vintage cars
parked at the front of the community.
Executive Director Simone Paler says,
“It made such a big impact on our
residents, families, staff, neighbours
and guests. Now we really are known
to have the best parties in the
retirement community!”
Staff, residents and volunteers at
Revera’s Highland Place in Kitchener,
Ont., held their Annual Talent
Show, complete with 16 acts and 22
participants. Staff and volunteers
sang, played the piano, performed
solo dances and one even did a
ventriloquist act. Residents were
involved in many performances such
as the resident couple dance and
the Hawaiian Hukilau dance. The
Highland Choir also performed.
As Caroline Tzeckas, Director of
Recreation at Highland Place said,
“We don’t know who had more fun,
the participants or those watching
the show.”
