advice from
our
residents
Across our Revera communities,
we’re proud to count many
residents who are more than
100
years of age. In celebration
of these centenarians, we invite
you to enjoy some of their time-
honoured advice:
Stay
positive
and look at
the bright side – and there
always is a
bright side.
Be
true
to what you
believe
in.

Just
live life
and
enjoy it.
Success
doesn’t come
to you – you have to
go after it.
Everything in
moderation.
I like a scotch a couple of
times a week,
no more.
Don’t give
advice.
IS A BELLY LAUGH AS
GOOD AS A
WORKOUT?
Having a sense of humour
supports your psychological
health. Did you know the act
of laughter also enhances your
physical health?
The data is mounting, says
the Mayo Clinic, which notes
that laughter stimulates your
heart and increases oxygen
consumption. Your muscles
relax too, which can decrease
pain. One research team at the
University of Maryland’s School
of Medicine discovered that
after laughing the lining of blood
vessels expand. That can cut the
risk of cardiovascular disease.
On one list of steps to reduce
high blood pressure, the Heart
&
Stroke Foundation of Canada
noted everything from cutting
sodium to aerobic workouts to,
yes, using laughter as a stress-
buster.
Like activity and nutrition, look for
ways to incorporate laughter into
your and your loved one’s routine.
Joking around, watching a funny
show or reading something
humorous can make you happy –
and healthy. So remember, next
time you’re looking for a boost,
laughter is a great medicine!
