OVERNIGHT
RELAY SHOWS
STAFF SPIRIT
The Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay
for Life fundraiser symbolizes a
patient’s journey. Cancer never sleeps,
organizers say, “so neither do we.”
The event, held in communities
across Canada since 1999, is a
12-
hour overnight fundraiser. Team
members take turns walking laps on
a local track, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. This
year, Cassandra Kulakowsky, Assistant
Executive Director at Revera’s Leaside
in Toronto, Ont., spearheaded a
team comprising 13 area retirement
communities that together generated
a total Revera donation of nearly
$10,000.
On the night of the event, about 75
Revera staff members came to a
Toronto park to participate. When
not walking, staff gathered in tents to
swap stories and celebrate life. They
even wore Revera blue paint on their
faces as a gesture of solidarity.
We have a lot of people fighting
cancer in our communities and our
families,” says Cassandra, “so we
dressed as warriors to stand out and
show the spirit that we’re all fighting
together.”
We dressed as
warriors to stand
out and show the
spirit that we’re all
fighting together.
